Wilmer W. "Bill" Walkup, 79, died at 1:25 PM Sunday, Aug. 13 2000, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center. He was born April 17, 1921, in Kentland, and had resided in Lafayette 28 years, previously residing in Ohio, Illinois, Louisiana and Texas. He was a Kentland High School graduate. On Dec. 24, 1941, he married Marilyn Mae Neal in Ambia; she survives.

Mr. Walkup was the owner and operator of Bill Walkup Construction Co. Previously he worked at Russell Anderson Lumber Yard of Earl Park and was a produce grocer in the Lafayette area, Ohio, Illinois, Louisiana and Texas. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Medical Corps. He also was a member of Linwood Church of Christ.

Surviving are a son, Michael Walkup (wife Ginger) of Lafayette; three daughters, Cathie Yates, Nancy Banks (husband Bill), both of Lafayette, and Marilyn Switzer (husband Patrick) of Battle Ground; three brothers, Jerald Walkup of Lafayette, Calvin "Tad" Walkup of Attica, and Richard Walkup of Kentland; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a sister, Cecil Hancock; and three brothers, Ward, Curtis, and Bernard "Bun" Walkup. Service Aug. 17, Linwood Church of Christ, the Revs. Guy Brown and Jim McKowen officiating; internment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
