John Loveless was in Holstein, Virginia as of 1777. Then migrated to Ohio where he died. His first wife was killed by Indians. Some children remained in Canada after they were captured by the Indians and taken to Canada by Hull. There were seven children and two parents in captivity. Most of the family ended up in Ohio in Trumbull, Ross and Fairfield counties. The entire Loveless family of nine persons were taken prisoner on June 26, 1780 at Martin's Station by the British Canadians and their Indian allies.

John and Rachel Van Hook Loveless and their children: George, Sarah, John, Joseph, Nathan and others to a total of nine persons of this family were taken captive by the British Canadians and the Indians at Martin's Station. They were taken to Detroit by the British soldiers the 26th day of June 1780. They were held there until 1784 and taken to American authorities at Pittsburg after their release. Some of these children are from John Loveless' first marriage to Hannah.

He was born about 1730 and died about 1808 in Ross Co., OH. He married first to Hannah then to Rachel Van Hook in 1777. "Family 'stories' have a newborn being "brained" against a tree as a quick death by the Indians so that the baby wouldn't burden down Rachel on her trek to Canada. The older baby, Joseph Loveless was the 'full' son of Rachel and John and was hauled to Canada. He was carried in a papoose sling on his mother's back most of the way and was so hungry that he gnawed through her shoulder. There were older half-brothers that were also supposed to be taken captive at this time." There were nine members of the Loveless family captured at Martin's Station.

He married a 3rd time to Rebecca McCall on 12 Feb 1807 in Ross Co, Ohio. No children born to this marriage. He passed away a year and a half after this marriage.
