Sister Dorothy Bennett, age 92, a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity, died Tuesday evening, July 16, 2013 at Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc.She was born on November 27, 1920 in Lancaster, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Grant and Margaret (Ertz) Bennett. She entered the Convent in 1936 and professed her vows in 1939. Sister Dorothy earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Holy Family College, Manitowoc. Sister Dorothy served as an elementary teacher at St. John, Antigo, St. Mary, Kaukauna, St. Mary, Algoma, St. Rose, Clintonville, St. Joseph, Manitowoc, St. Mary, Bloomington, SS Andrew & Thomas, Potosi, St. Peter, Ashton, St. Mary, Clarks Mills, St. Pius X, Appleton, St. Joseph, Green Bay, Wisconsin; St. Agnes, Mingo Junction, St. Nicholas, Zanesville, Ohio; and St. Willibrord, Chicago, Illinois. She also served in the CCD program and visited the elderly at Sacred Heart, Manitowoc. After retiring from active ministry, she performed various tasks at St. Francis Convent and Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc. Since 2006, she had been residing in St. Rita Health Center at the Motherhouse. She is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; three brothers: Harold, Joe (Cory) Bennett, Virgil Bennett; a sister: Betty Hoffman; and a sister-in-law: Peggy Jayne. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law: Geneva Bennett.
