NEW ALBANY – Iris Adele Sappington, 72, died Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County in New Albany.
Iris Sappington was born Sept. 14, 1941, to Samuel Graham and Saraline Arnold Abernethy. She graduated from Myrtle High School and attended Northeast Community College. She retired from Merchants Truck Line. She continued to strive towards the Lord's work and accepted a position as Activities Director at Magnolia Place Personal Care Home, where she found the joy of her life. She was a devout member of Glenfield Methodist Church.

Iris was best known for her generosity, kindness, love for all she came in contact with and above all her strong faith in the Lord. She never met a stranger, and when encountering people, poor or undesirable, that most people would be unable to befriend, Iris included them in her life as if they were family.

Iris was a consummate lover of animals, in particular her Scottish Terrier dogs, Bonnie, Faith and Cotton. Her dogs were a special love, and they were always being pampered and loved.

Iris' defining characteristic was a loud amusing laugh. She will be missed by many but no one ever came into her life without the overwhelming certainty of her love.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today, April 8, 2014, at Glenfield Methodist Church in New Albany. Bro. Jim Cox and Bro. Brad Sartor will officiate. Burial will be in Ecru City Cemetery. Glenfield Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include a sister, Linda Elizabeth Abernethy Haynes Droke; nieces, Teresa Haynes, Sharon Haynes Brinkman (Robert); nephew, John W. Haynes IV; great-nieces, Korey Elizabeth Jarman (Josh), Emily Stanford, Sarah Brinkman and Lily Haynes; great-nephews, John Frosinotes, Bob Brinkman and Wesley Haynes, whom she adored; and special cousins Jeanne Cole (Bruce) and their daughters, Bethany Davis (Patrick) and Beverly Cole.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Sappington; her mother and father; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law.

Pallbearers will be Robert Brinkman Jr., John W. Haynes IV, John Frosinotes, Joshua Jarman, Patrick Davis and Lebarron West.

Visitation will be from 1 until 3 p.m. today at Glenfield Methodist Church.

Memorials may be made to Glenfield Methodist Church, 102 N. Glenfield Road, New Albany, MS 38652 or a church or charity of choice.
