Charles Amick, 2, of New Ipswich Road, Ashby, Mass., died Friday, April 4, 2014, at Boston Children's Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

His sister, Amber S. Amick, passed away in May of last year.

Charlie was born Dec. 24, 2011, the son of Luke A. and Schuyler E. (Collins) Amick. Charlie was born with a rare progressively destructive metabolic storage disorder called I-cell disease.

In addition to his parents, Charlie leaves his paternal grandparents: Mike and Joyce Amick of Pennsylvania; his maternal grandparents: Vince and Jocelyn Collins of Ashby. He also leaves behind many loving aunts and uncles, three sets of great-grandparents and a very large extended family. He will be especially missed by his dog "Petey," whom Charlie adored.

Charlie was an extremely happy and upbeat little boy, who brought joy to everyone he met. He loved cars and animals. Despite Charlie's illness, he achieved many milestones in his life. His family is comforted knowing that he is now free from pain and would like to deeply thank all of the teachers, therapists, nurses and doctors who helped take such great care of him.

Calling hours are to be held Friday, April 11, from 4 until 7 p.m. at the T.J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 250 Main St. (Rt. 119), Townsend Center, Mass.

A memorial service will take place at Highland Baptist Church, 19 Cedar St., Fitchburg, Mass., at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 12.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either: The Yash Gandhi Foundation at http://www.ygf4icell.org/ygf/donate.php to help fund research for I-cell disease; or The Kami Boyles Foundation Inc., 256 Colleen Lane, Jesup, GA 31545 to help bring joy to children with life-threatening medical issues. They generously donated Petey to Charlie and supported his family during his hospital stay.

The T.J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 250 Main St., Townsend, is assisting the family with arrangements. Please see www.andersonfuneral.com for additional information.
