A REMARKABLE woman for her steadfast faith, her rare beauty,
and her strong determination to overcome challenges, Christine
was born August 12, 1925 to Arley and Caroline Folsum Iness in
Kinta, Oklahoma. She grew up on a farm just south of Kinta,
graduated from Kinta High School, and completed one year at
Oklahoma Baptist University.
A young WWII veteran, Jones Barnett courted her by letter
during his war years. As soon as he was honorably discharged,
he took a train to California where Christine and her mother
were temporarily located. Jones and Christine married on
October 13, 1945, in Reno Nevada.
The Barnett couple traveled many states during his career as a
surveyor for Precision Exploration. They settled on a cattle
ranch in Haskell County, Oklahoma, where their two children,
Jones Scott Barnett and Harriett Lee Barnett (Ford) graduated
from Kinta High.
From Christine, the family learned that when she prayed she
spoke blessings of peace, joy, provision, preservation, and
revelation-knowledge of Jesus over the lives of her children,
children's children to the thousandth generation, and also over
an additional 30 to 40 people whom she made mention of
individually each time she spoke those blessings. Often it took
more than an hour, and REMARKABLY, she never forgot a single
name. She loved to pray with her Pastor and beloved friend,
Wilma Jo Mahan.
Besides her sincere and steadfast faith, and her REMARKABLE
ability to sew and design beautiful clothes for her daughter, one
of the more comical things she was known for was wearing a
plastic vegetable bag on her head to protect her silvery upswept
hair during wind or rain or even just pulling on a top. The
grocery bag worked very well. Her hair was always classically
styled.
Husband Jones died in 1994, leaving Christine and son Scott
with the cattle. Tragically, Scott died in a car wreck in 2000.
Christine took over the ranch and REMARKABLY ran it as a
widow until she was age 95 when she had to retire due to
impaired vision. She moved to Saddlebrooke and enjoyed three
years of family celebrations with her daughter Harriett and her
husband John Ford (deceased July 29, 2023); granddaughter,
Johnnell (Ford) Ramlow and husband Darin Ramlow and their
daughters Cady Ramlow and Brynn (Ramlow) Robison and her
husband Christian Robison; granddaughter Danae (Ford)
Schindele and husband John Schindele and their daughter Carli
and son Carson Colvin. She also has a grandson, Kirk Barnett, and granddaughter, Tara Barnett, a great granddaughter Maci Chronister, and great
grandson Adam Scott Chronister.
In recent weeks of declining health, Christine sometimes
remarked that she sensed a third presence in the home.
Harriett suggested, "Mom it must be your angel." Christine
finally commented with a smile, "It must be Snitzel." (That's
Harriett's miniature dachshund.)
The family knows without doubt that the angels came for
Christine on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. She won't need to wear a
vegetable bag on her head in heaven, where her beloved Savior
has calmed her every storm.
Graveside funeral services for Christine will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, October 21, 2023 at San Bois Cemetery, Kinta, Oklahoma.
