Eudora Schafer

Eudora "Dodie" Jones Schafer, 82, of Nashville, Tenn., died Friday, Dec. 16, 2005, in Nashville.

She was born Oct. 12, 1923, in Defoe, Ky., the daughter of Homer and Cynthia Jones, and grew up in Madison. She had been a PTA leader, school reformer and an employee of the Chicago Public Schools, including work with troubled youth as a truant officer.

Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Thomas Schafer; one sister, Mary Edith Mosher of Dayton, Ohio; two daughters, Michal Ann Schafer of Woodbridge, Va., and Polly Brannelly of Darwin, Australia; two sons, David Schafer of Chicago and Daniel Schafer of Nashville; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings, Louanna, Florence, Winfred, Thelma and Thurmon.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Southminster Presbyterian Church, 643 Harding Place in Nashville, with burial in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Nashville Alliance for Public Education, 1531 Ninth Ave. North, Nashville, TN 37208.

The Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home in Nashville is in charge of arrangements.
