He married Ann Kilroy, a native of Ireland, on May 19, 1857, in Union County, Kentucky. They afterward moved to Louisville and then to Paducah, where Michael worked as a moulder.

Michael Haffey, a moulder, died at the city hospital Sunday morning at 12:30 o'clock from pneumonia and the effects of a fall at the Mineral Well hotel several days ago. He had been ill a few days and in walking about his boarding house fell down the stairs, and had since been growing steadily worse.
The deceased was born in Ireland and came to America about 1854. He was about 70 years old and had lived in Paducah for many years. His wife died several years ago and he leaves two sons, John and Will Haffey.
The funeral took place today from the St. Francis De Sales church, burial at Mt. Carmel. His son, John, who has been working at Mayfield, arrived Saturday to be at his bedside.
