Marie Harrison Patterson died April 3, 2014 at Rutland Regional Medical Center surrounded by her children.

She was born May 8, 1930, the daughter of John W. and Florence (Roussil) Harrison in Rutland, Vermont. She grew up in Rutland and attended Christ the King School and graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy in 1948.

She worked in the office of A. Tuttle Patterson after high school, before becoming a homemaker and mother.

She was married to Gordon S. Patterson on June 10, 1950 at Christ the King Church by Msgr. John M. Kennedy.

She was a former Girl Scout leader and Boy Scout den mother. Her favorite hobbies were ceramics, as well as sewing and knitting, especially for her daughter, grandchildren and many nieces. She also enjoyed bowling in her Thursday evening league at the Rutland Bowlerama.

Mrs. Patterson is survived by her daughter, Carol Patterson Schwenk of Rochester, VT and two sons, Thomas G. Patterson and his wife Emma of Hancock, VT and Marc G. Patterson of Granville, VT. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Lt. Geoffrey G. Schwenk, USN and his wife Jessica of San Diego, CA, Katherine R. Schwenk of Lafayette, IN, and Forrest G. Patterson of Hancock, VT, as well as by several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Gordon in 2003, and infant daughter, Mary in 1958 and son-in-law H. Reid Schwenk in 2004. She was also predeceased by all her siblings, John W. Harrison, Jr., Robert E. Harrison, James F. Harrison, Harold J. Harrison Sr., Patricia K. DiGangi and Carole A. Yakunovich.

A funeral service will be held at Christ the King Church on Saturday, May 3 at 11:30 a.m. Burial to follow in Proctor.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorial contributions to the Boys and Girls Club of Rutland or the Vermont Foodbank.

Arrangements are under the direction of Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.
