ESTEEMED LOCAL RESIDENT IS DEAD

Mrs. Elizabeth Tawes Passed Away Saturday

BURIED IN CRISFIELD CEMETERY ON SUNDAY

One of this city's most esteemed and best
loved citizens, Mrs. Elizabeth Tawes, passed
away Saturday morning at 3.00 a. m. at the
McCready Memorial Hospital, as the result of
complications. The deceased had been in poor
and failing health for the past several years
and had been a patient at the local hospital
for two weeks when death came. She was
seventy-five years old and had spent all of her
life in Somerset County where she was born
and raised.

Mrs. Tawes with her true Christian spirit bore
her afflictions cheerfully and remained ever
cheerful until the end came Saturday morning.
For many years she had been a member of the
Immanuel M. E. Church of this city and before
ill health overtook her, was active in all of its functions. She had a large circle of friends who
loved her dearly and who were shocked and
grieved when word of her passing reached
them. She was of the sweet, motherly type of
lady who made friends easily with both young
and old.

Her husband, Mr. Hance E. Tawes, died in
1927.

Surviving are two children, Mrs. James McLane
and Mr. J. C. W. Tawes, well-known and
popular seafood packer and shipper, both of
this city. One brother, Mr. Thomas Soden
Elmore, of Baltimore, also survive.

Funeral services, which were largely attended
by her relatives and friends, were held from
the home of her daughter, Mrs. James McLane,
with whom she had been making her home for
some time, on Sunday afternoon at 2.00
o'clock. Rev. J. R. Bicking, pastor of the
Immanuel Church, officiated at the final rites.

Pallbearers were Edwin Riggin, Lionel Gibson,
Paul Ruark, Benjamin Sterling, Clinton Tawes,
J. A. Bradshaw.

Interment was in the Crisfield cemetery beside
the body of her late husband.
