Jacob Brown "was a good citizen and well respected by those who knew him. He was in the forty-eighth year of his age, and left a wife and seven children to mourn his loss." His obituary was in the Bryan Times, Feb. 18, 1897, page 8.

His children were: Charles (1877- ????), Lucretia (1880-????), David (1882-????), Sophia (1884-????), Guy Russell (1886-????), Olive (1888-????), and Alfred (1890-????).
