***Of note, there is another John Ethridge, b 1821 - d 1898, from Gwinnett County. That John married Mary Jane Hannah and is Memorial #9253887.

John Etheridge, born in SC, lived in Gwinnett County, Georgia, died of disease, in service to the CSA. John died early in the war, July 14, 1862.

16th Georgia Rgt roster states he died in Ethelsville, Alabama. Original pension records of his widow states he died at Everettsville, Virginia. The 16th fought with the Army of Northern Virginia. The Seven Days Battle (end of June 1862) and Battle of Malvern Hill were fought in July 1862, in Virginia. The 16th Georgia Regiment was part of those battles. A field hospital was located in Everettsville, Virginia. You decide. I believe that NC and AL were transcription mistakes.

Parents: Shepherd Etheridge and Ginny Hamilton.
Shepherd born October 20, 1790 in North Carolina and died in 1863 in Gwinnett County Georgia (Corinth Church). Ginny born in 1795 in South Carolina and died May 2, 1826 in Gwinnett County Georgia (Midway Church).

Married to Mary J Sharpton. He had 8 children:

John Taylor E
James Jordan E
Benjamin F E
Martha Jane E
Daniel Sheppard E
Sally E (Sarah)
Mary S E
Delilah (Lila, Lilli) Matilda E
Nancy Caroline E

He enlisted in Lawrenceville, Ga, on 16th of July 1861, and served in Company I of the 16th Regiment of Georgia Volunteers, Capt N L Hutchins Company I, commanded by Col. Goode Bryan.

He died of disease, on 14 July 1862. You can find records on Fold3.

His widow Mary applied for a pension.

His father was married x3: Ginny Hamilton, Lillian Kirkland, and Matilda Evans. He had numerous siblings and half-siblings.

At this time I am not sure who his parents were. There are two John Etheridges living in Gwinnett County at the same time. One married a woman with the surname Hannah and the other married a woman with the surname Sharpton. I have DNA matches, many, to both of these surnames. It is still a mystery to me how these two Johns are related.
