He travelled with the band of the Ringling Bros., Barnum and Bailey Circus. Later, he formed a vaudeville group. He married Edith Crawford, a professional singer. They had 2 daughters, Dorothy and Betty. He became seriously ill with tuberculosis and died in a TB sanitarium in Albuquerque, New Mexico. During his hospital period he wrote many original pieces of music, arranging them for band without benefit of any musical instruments to aid him in the composition. He died in 1927 at the age of 29.
