Josie's mother, Elizabeth (Newby) Price, died May 11, 1876. Consequently, Josie and sister Mary Ann were sent to Rush County, Indiana where they were raised by James and Lucinda (Price) Downey. Lucinda Downey was a cousin of their father, Thomas J Price. Lucinda's father was John Price, a brother to Elisha Galloway Price, Thomas J Price's father.
Josie married John Tice, to this union were born two daughters and seven sons; Pearl, Ethel, Russell, Charles, Landen, Clarence, Merrill, Earl, and Howard Tice.
Mrs. Josephine Tice Died Near Raysville
Mrs. Josephine Tice, 77 died at her home near Raysville Sunday following an illness of about a year. She was a native of Iowa but had lived in the community since she was a child.
She was a member of Hennegan Christian church in Rush County.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Pearl Harvey of Knightstown; six sons, Russell of Knightstown, Merrill of Rushville, Landon of Carthage, Howard of near Knightstown, Earl of Tipton and Charles of Richmond; a sister, Mrs. Lizzie Leaverton, of Milton, Iowa; and eight grandchildren. Her husband died in 1930.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Butcher-Bentley funeral home in Knightstown by Rev. H. R. Swearingen. Burial will be in Glen Cove cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.
