Laurent Ruel, son of Flavien Ruel and Marie Josephte Lemelin, was baptized on 23 Dec 1845 at Saint Anselme, Dorchester, Québec, Canada. He married Célina Goulet, daughter of Joseph Goulet and Marguerite Bouchard, on 27 Nov 1876 at Sainte Claire, Dorchester. (Five years earlier, his brother Hubert had married Célina's sister Marceline.) Laurent immigrated with his family to the United States about 1880, initially settling in Waterville, Kennebec, Maine. The family moved to Somersworth, Strafford, New Hampshire by 1900. By 1910, the family had settled in Holyoke, Hampden, Massachusetts. Laurent and Célina remained in Holyoke until theirs deaths within one hour of each other on 18 Jan 1935, Laurent at age 89 and Célina at age 82. Their double funeral took place on 21 Jan 1935, and they were interred in Notre Dame Cemetery in South Hadley.

Sources include the Drouin Collection, census records, city directories, the Massachusetts death index, the Springfield Republican (Springfield, MA) 19 Jan 1935 and 22 Jan 1935, and my family copy of the 1942 Généalogie de la Famille Goulet-Ruel.
