Mae Brown has her precious smile once again as she was embraced by the loving arms of our dear Lord on March 28, 2014. On behalf of Mae, we want to thank the staff at Park Plaza Nursing Home in San Angelo. They became her family away from home and filled her last few months on earth with much love, dignity and compassion. Also, we want to thank the staff of Shannon Hospital. Upon numerous stays, they were continuously by her side with a smile and an outreached hand.
Eula Mae Carrie Deeds was born June 1, 1923, in Rochelle, Texas, to parents Alma and Oliver Deeds. After graduating from Placid High School, she served as a nurse in Stephenville during World War II where she met her husband of 46 1/2 years, Edwin Leslie Brown (E.L) of Bentley, Louisiana. After the war, E.L. and Mae settled in Brady, Texas. E.L. owned a welding shop and Mae worked at J.C. Penney's in Brady until the store closed.
In their golden years, Mae and E.L. enjoyed traveling the country in their motor home. Mae loved to fish, though she could never stand to eat it. Mae was a devoted Christian and was faithfully involved in the Christian Community Church in Brady. Her love for God reflected unendingly in her love for her family and friends. She was extremely creative and enjoyed raising and harvesting her pecans and peaches to share with everyone. She enjoyed piecing quilts, sewing and gardening. She was well-known for her homemade jellies and preserves. Her love of preparing a good ole fashioned meal, with desserts of course, fed many hungry souls with not only food, but fed them with the spirit of God, as well.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother Burl Deeds and his wife, Joyce of Midland; sister-in-law Sue Deeds of Shreveport, La.; son Michael Brown of Brady; grandson Robert Michael Floyd; and a stillborn daughter. Left to cherish her memories are: brother Bill Deeds of Shreveport, La.; sister Sylvia Adams and husband Billy of San Angelo; daughter Sherry Floyd and husband Robert of Austin; daughter-in-law Debbie Brown McMahon of Mertzon; granddaughter Kimberly Ferguson and husband Troy, and their sons, Caleb and Daniel of Duncanville; granddaughter Emily McMahon of San Angelo; and granddaughter Leslie Floyd of Dallas.
Pallbearers are Robert Floyd, Troy Ferguson, Ronnie Deeds, Sammy Deeds, John Michael Deeds, Charles Dicker and Bobby Guerrero. Honorary Pallbearers are her two precious great-grandsons, Caleb and Daniel Ferguson.
Memorials may be made to The Christian Community Church, 201 E. Pearl St., Brady, Texas. Visitation with the family will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Heritage Funeral Home, 300 N. Bridge St., Brady, Texas (325-597-1977).
