He graduated in 1950 from Queen Anne High School in Seattle and enlisted in the Air Force shortly thereafter. Their daughter, Petra, was born late the following year, their son, Tom followed early in 1962 and youngest daughter Evelyn was born in 1964. Gary served in the United States Air Force in Germany, Turkey and Thailand as well as in several domestic posts, including Alaska, California and Illinois. When he retired, he earned two bachelor’s degrees from WSU, one in industrial arts, and one in fine arts, and also got his teaching certificate. Gary then served as a substitute teacher for many years in various school districts in the area. Gary created art in many media, such as woodwork and carvings, clay sculptures and leaded glass, blown glass and lapidary. Gary is survived by his wife of 41 years, Irmgard, his children Petra, Tom and Evelyn; daughter-in-law Cindy, sons-in-law Douglas and Reiner; grandchildren, Alyssa, Michael and Adrian; his beloved step-mother, Eunice “Danny” Roush; brothers John, Dick and Bill; and his nieces Kathy, Debbie and Jennifer.
