Confederate Army Officer. A farmer in Cherokee County, Georgia before the Civil War, he enlisted in the Cherokee Brown Rangers in 1861. Elected Captain in the 14th Georgia Infantry Regiment in 1861, he was promoted to Major in 1862 and to Lieutenant Colonel in 1863. While leading a charge against Sickles's III Corps during the Battle of Chancellorsville, he was wounded in the leg. After being transported to the U. S. Hotel in Richmond, he died from infection following the amputation of his leg.
