Death of H.C. Stewart

The sad news was received here last Saturday of the death of Mr. Herbert C. Stewart at Mineral Wells, Tex., where he had been for some time in a vain effort to regain his health.

The immediate cause of death was due to an unsuccessful operation for appendicitis, although he had been in a low state of health for several years. The remains reached here Monday night accompanied by his grief stricken family and Tuesday morning were conveyed to the Pine Grove cemetery, about nine miles from here, and interred in the family burying grounds in the presence of a large gathering of sorrowing relatives and sympathizing friends.

The deceased was born and reared in this parish and was about 37 years of age. He was a brother of Attorneys D.W. and E.L. Stewart of this place, W.G. Stewart, president of the police jury, and Mrs. D.S. Mims of the Grove community, besides three other sisters.

He removed from this place to Crowley about eight years ago and engaged in the mercantile business. He lived there until about two years ago when failing health compelled him to abandon his business and seek to regain health.

The Democrat joins many friends here in this, his old home, in tendering its sincere condolence to the bereaved family.

The remains of Mr. Herbert Stewart were brought here on Monday, from Mineral Wells, Texas, and followed by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends, were buried in the family lot at his old home in the country. This was the home Mr. Steward until several years ago, when he removed to Crowley, but, on account of failing health, went west, where for the past two years he has resided. His wife and four children, Mr. Austin and Mr. Tommy Stewart came on this sad mission. To the grief-stricken ones in this hour of bereavement, sincerest sympathy is extended.
