Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois, Friday, February 28, 1969, page 3:
  Funeral services for Courtney Lewis, 77, Isherwood Avenue, who died Monday in Villa Terrace Nursing Home in Alton, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Pletcher Funeral Home.
  The Rev. William Lawton, pastor of Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
  Mr. Lewis was a retired electrician. Born July 28, 1891, in Edwardsville, he was a son of the late George and Violet Daugherty Lewis.
  He was married to Della Wofford on Oct. 12, 1911, in St. Louis. She died in March, 1958.
  One son, Courtney Lewis Jr. of Long Island, N.Y., survives.
  Three brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death.

Pallbearers were Elmer Lewis, George Lewis, Melvin Penelton, Henry Rice Sr., James Kelly and Emmett Jackson.
