David Clayton Gaines was born the son of Clayton Omar Gaines and Eva Lou (Sorrell) Gaines on May 3, 1960, in Thayer, Missouri, and departed this life March 23, 2014, at his home in Guthrie, Oklahoma, at the age of 53 years.
He is survived by his double uncle and aunt, Thomas and Myrtle (Gaines) Sorrell of Guthrie, Oklahoma; six other uncles, Herbert Gaines, Jr. of Thayer, Missouri, Victor Gaines and wife, Julia of Scaranton, Kansas, Ray Gaines of Provo, Utah, Leon Sorrell of Pea Ridge, Arkansas, Sam Sorrell and wife, Sharon of Bartlett, Kansas, and Paul Sorrell and wife, Lynette of Verona, Missouri; two other aunts, Lois Adkins and husband, Cliff of Riverton, Iowa, and Martha East of Las Vegas, Nevada; step-mother, Roberta Gaines of Guthrie, Oklahoma; best friends, Johnny Ray Bennett and Rusty Mooney; a whole host of cousins; other relatives; and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Eva Lou Gaines; and his sister, Ruth Ann Gaines.
David was a carpenter by trade, but much more than work, he loved riding fast horses. He competed at rodeos in team roping and team penning events, winning saddles and other accolades. He was truly a good-hearted guy and was glad to be a friend to everyone. He was known to keep a good number of horses on the farm and have friends out for a Saturday afternoon trail ride. He enjoyed deer and turkey hunting, as well as an occasional fishing trip.
David knew the love of our Wonderful Savior. He was well loved by his large family and many, many friends. He will truly be missed.
