Mervin R. Winters, 86, of Rossiter, died on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017, at Hillsdale Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Hillsdale.

He was born on Nov. 15, 1931, in Juneau, a son of Dorothy (Sutter) Kanouff and step-father Clay Kanouff.

On Aug. 27, 1955, he married Dolly (Miller) Winters, who preceded him in death.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mervin was a member of the Rossiter United Methodist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, family and his grandchildren. He loved building things and was always working on something.

He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 582 in Rossiter and worked for PennLines as a tree trimmer for 35 years.

He is survived by two children, a son Douglas R. Winters and wife Tami of Rossiter and daughter Kimberly Ball and husband Donnie of Sevierville, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Behka Lenhart, Kayleigh Lenhart, Heather King and husband Joey, and Christopher Covert; two great-grandchildren, Brantley and Bristol King; and two half-brothers, Ron and Earl Kanouff.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Mervin Keith Winters; a half-brother, Terry Kanouff; and a half-sister, Shirley Jean Murray.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at the funeral home, with Pastor Don Brauer officiating.

Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Rossiter.

Memorial contributions may be made, in memory of Mervin, to the Alzheimer's Association, 2595 Interstate Drive, Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
