She was born Jan. 24, 1916, in Stokes County to James Thomas and Claudia Mabe Dodson.
Mrs. Carter was a member of Pine Ridge Primitive Baptist Church in Belews Creek.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tyre Carter; two sons, Jerry Carter and James Thomas (Bill) Carter; two brothers, Thomas Dodson and Limbe Dodson, and a sister, Nina Woods.
Surviving are two sons, Dewey Carter (Bonnie) of Winston-Salem and Robert Gray Carter (Nancy) of Walnut Cove; a daughter, Linda Gilmore (Leon) of Kernersville; a daughter-in-law, Carol Carter of Kernersville; two brothers, Alvin Dodson of Walnut Cove and Ralph Dodson of Danbury; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 9, at Pine Ridge Primitive Baptist Church in Belews Creek by Elder Willie Brame, and Elder Milton Gunter. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, March 8, at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home in Kernersville. The family requests that memorials be directed to Pine Ridge Primitive Baptist Church, c/o James Tuttle, 2928 Piney Mountain Road, Walnut Cove, NC 27052. The family would like to express its sincere gratitude to the staff at the Nursing Center at Oak Summit for all their support and care given to our mother during this time.
