Bethany Ann O'Brian, daughter of James and Deborah O'Brian of Berkeley County, Virginia married Nicholas T. Ambrose November 18, 1835.
Nicholas died in the fall or winter of 1864. Bethany Ambrose lost her farm in Cacapon District after the death of her husband and she and her five sons moved to Berkeley Springs. Records show that Bethany Ambrose (widow) marries Peter Shirley (widower) February 13, 1869.

After death of Nicholas, married Peter Shirley, father-in-law to her son George Henry.

A "note" in one of the Old Blue Graveyard Books (1980) held at the Morgan County Library in the Morgan Room that Bethany Shirley is buried at the Dutch Graveyard with her first husband Nicholas T. Ambrose.
