#4508 Pte. Charles Petersen, 19th Battalion Australian Infantry, A.I.F. enlisted on Nov 8, 1915 at Holdsworthy, N.S.W. He was described as a 30 year old laborer born in Obu, (Abo) Finland, 5' 5-1/2" tall with a fair complexion, grey eyes, with light hair going bald. He was the son of Elsie Peteren of Obu, Finland.

He embarked from Sydney on April 9, 1915 landing in Alexandria then proceeding to England where he arrived at Plymouth on June 7th. He landed in France on Sept 11, 1916 and on Sept 29th he received a gun shot wound to the knee. He was moved to hospital in England.

He returned to France on Dec 12, 1917 and rejoined the 19th battalion in Belgium on the 18th. He was Killed in Action on June 14, 1918.

His relatives were untraceable and his medals, plaque and memorial scroll were not forwarded to an heir according to his military records. His name is sometimes misspelled Peterson.
