Friedrich Heinrich Meenen, son of Friedrich and Johanna Meenen, was born July 20, 1873 near Oldenburg, Germany and departed this life May 29, 1961 at the age of 87 years, 10 months, and 9 days.
Fritz spent his early boyhood and school days in Germany and came to this country with his parents in 1884. He received his education at Mulberry and Riverdale schools. Fritz never married, but lived with and cared for his mother until her passing in 1934. He successfully engaged in farming and stock raising until about 1940 and continued to live on the farm. He spent his adult lifetime in this community except for occasional vacation trips which he thoroughly enjoyed.
Fritz was an active member of the Clifton IOOF Lodge for over 55 years and lived and enjoyed lodge fellowship.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers; Bajo, Peter, and John. He is survived by his sister, Mrs. E.A. Gerriets of Mount Vernon, Washington, his brother L.E. Meenen of Clifton, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Memorial services were held Thursday June 1 at Turners Chapel with Reverend Merl Salser officiating.
Frank Pfister, Chalmers Pfister and William Berner sang "In the Garden" and "Abide with Me".
Pallbearers were Henry Tillinghast, Harold Weber, George Watson, Joe Haynes, Frank Stine and William Berry.
Graveside services were held by the Clyde IOOF Lodge.
Internment was in Riverdale Cemetery.
