Osborne Co. Farmer, Jan 19, 1933 Pg. 3:
Danile Henry Knight,
son of Peter and Alida Knight, was born January 31, 1853, in Buffalo, New York, and passed away after a few days illness at his home in Downs, Kansas, Wednesday evening, January 4, 1933, at the age of 79 years, 11 months and four days.

When he was about three years of age his parents moved to Wisconsin, where his father died, leaving the widowed mother with four little children, Sarah, Roscoe, Elizabeth and Daniel. In a year or two the mother married Samuel Kent and when Dan, as he was called, was six years old, the family, which now included a half-brother, Horace Kent, moved to Minnesota. In 1869 they went to Maryville, Missouri, where they made their new home. It was here that he met Charity E. Booth, who became his wife January 7, 1877. Mr. and Mrs. Knight were the same age, even to the exact day of the month and year.

In 1881 Mr. and Mrs. Knight and three older sons, Clarence, John and Charles, came to Kansas, settling on a farm near Centralia. Here the youngest son, Robert, and a daughter were born, the little girl dying in infancy.
In 1910 Mr. and Mrs. Knight sold the farm in Nemaha County, and came to make their home in Downs.

Mr. Downs was for the most of his years a farmer; he was engaged for several years in the general merchandise business with two of his sons in Downs, and since 1929 has been retired from business, but always keeping an active interest in the property which he and his devoted wife had acquired through years of thrift and self-denial.

Honesty was his life's guiding principle and his family and home his pride and joy.

Besides the wife of the home and the four sons, J. Clarence of Osborne; John H. and Robert R. of Downs; Charles P. of Los Angeles, Calif., he leaves to mourn his passing three daughters-in-law, two grandsons, Charles, Jr. of Los Angeles, Calif., and Ralph Knight of Salina, his wife, and the three great grandchildren, Ruth, Margaret, James D. and Sue Kathryn Knight of Salina, and a number of nieces and nephews; his sisters and brothers, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Clarence Knight, and a granddaughter, Vera Knight, preceding him in death.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist church Sunday afternoon and were conducted by the pastor, Rev. Mark E. Smith. The body was laid to rest in the Downs cemetery.
