Merion "Gynelle" Alston Bowers, 89, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 20, 2014. Funeral: 1 p.m. Monday in Forest Ridge Funeral Home Chapel. Interment: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mrs. Bowers was born on Dec. 20, 1924, in Rusk County to John and Bernice Alston. She was married for 59 years to her loving husband, Jim Bowers, and together they raised their family in several locations while Jim served in the military. In 1965 they settled in Hurst. Gynelle was dedicated to the care of her family, and passionate about gardening. She retired from Zale Corporation in 1989. Survivors: Brother, Willis Alton Alston; children, Lynnette Steiner, Sharon Coker, Gayle Kneupper, Kaleta Hillier and James Neely Bowers; 16 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by many extended family members and friends.
