LAMB-NUHN

Benjamin Thomas Lamb Jr. known as B. T. was born in Narrows Township 31 Oct. 1919. His father died when he was only 9 years old so he had to help with the farming at an early age. He attended Brock Grade School and Macon Public High School graduating in 1937. He served as board member of Brock School, MFA, and ASCS. He purchased the family farm in 1946 from his mother and since that time has added 3 other farms. He now owns 530 acres. He raised hogs, had a dairy herd, and did general farming. The milking was done by hand for many years until he purchased milkers. Highway 63 was built by his home in 1928. It was a gravel road until 1932 when it was paved. The work was all done with horses. The workers had a camp just west of his house and he sold eggs and milk to them.

B.T.'s parents were Benjamin Thomas Lamb Sr. (B 13 Jan. 1883 D 31 June 1928) and Martha Moselle Walker (B 3 March 1883 D 31 March 1968). They were married 1 March 1908 and are buried at Mt. Salem south of Excello. He had 2 brothers and 3 sisters. She had 1 half brother, 2 half sisters, 1 owm brother, and 5 own sisters.

They had 7 children: Jane Elizabeth Moore (B 2 June 1910), Mary Virginia Teter (B 15 Feb. 1912), Edith Nell Moore (B 28 Sept. 1913), Marth Moselle Halley McEvoy (B 5 April 1917), Benjamin Thonas Jr. (B 31 Oct. 1919), Emily Abigail Miller (B 5 Aug. 1921), Grace Eleanor Lenzini (B 16 Feb. 1924).

B.T.'s mothers parents were Gabriel Marion Walker (B 15 May 1845 D 7 Feb 1925) and Amytis Ann Tedford (B 12 Sept. 1850 D 14 June 1908). They were married 4 March 1875 and are buried at Friendship southeast of Macon.

B.T.'s fathers parents were Hugh James Lamb (B 6 Feb. 1849 D 20 June 1931) and Ira Jane Stokes (B 18 Sept. 1855 D 7 Dec. 1906). They were married 11 Dec. 1879. Both are buried at Mt. Salem.

B.T. was married 27 June 1943 to Mary Ann Nuhn from Atlanta. She graduated from Atlanta school in 1939. Her father was John Christopher Nuhn (B 13 Oct. 1870 D 8 April 1939). He was the youngest of nine children. On 14 Jan. 1906 he married Elfie Belle Grugin (B 29 April 1887 D 1 March 1968). She was raised in Milam Chapel community. They are buried at Hopewell west of Atlanta. They had 5 children: John Grover (B 15 Jan. 1907), Karl Ordell (B 5 Jan. 1913), Phillip Dale (B 26 July 1915 D 16 Jan. 1979), Mary Anna Lamb (B 16 Jan. 1922), Edwin Paul (B 17 Sept. 1924). Grover, Phillip, and Edwin never married.

Mary Anna's mothers parents were Anna Rhoads (B 27 May 1864) in Ulster County, N.Y. D 14 Oct. 1919 and Sealous Grugin B 1847 D 1911. He had 6 children by a first marriage. He and Anna Rhoads married 23 Feb. 1884. They are buried at Milam Chapel North of Bevier. They had 4 daughters and 3 sons.

Mary Anna's father's parents were Anna Barbara Reed (B 23 Jan. 1834 D 20 June 1903) and Joseph Nuhn (B 11 May 1824 D 21 Dec. 1905). He had 3 brothers and 1 sister all raised in Barnsville Community. They are buried at Bloomington north of Bevier.

B.T. and Mary Anna have 2 daughters: Shirley Ann B 21 April 1946 and Patricia Sue B 9 March 1950. B.T. and Anna are both Committee Man and Committe Woman from Narrows Township. She was active in 4-h work, Excello Sunshine Club, County Extension, and a judge at elections for many years.

Shirley married 5 Dec. 1965, Ronald Ray Switzer B 11 Jan. 1943 on 5 Dec. 1965. He sold insurance until he moved to a farm in 1969. He now owns 240 acres where he and B.T. farm together. Shirley worked at Employment Security Office until her children were born. They have 3 sons: Christopher Ray B 22 May 1972, Mark Thomas B 3 Aug. 1975, and Narthan Edward B 25 Feb. 1982. In 1984 Shirley went to work at Toastmaster for a short time and now drives a school bus for Macon County RI.

The grandchildren spend a lot of time with their grandparents as they are only1/4 mile apart. Chris and Mark ride the 4-wheeler through the pasture to Granny and PaPa's. If no one will bring Nathan he just walks to Granny and PaPa's house since he is too young for the 4-wheeler. Nathan will start kindergarten in the fall of 1987. Chris and Mark are active members of Excello-Go-Getters 4H. Chris is a member of FFA and plays football at Macon County RI. Mark is a member of the grade school band.

Patricia and Shirley attended Brock School until it closed in 1958 and was moved and then was destroyed in the tornado in 1975. They then went to Macon Public School. Shirley graduated in 1964 and Patricia in 1968. Both went to University of Missouri for one year. They were active members of Excello-Go-Getters 4H.

Patricia worked at Uregas and Monitor index in Moberly. On 7 May 1970 she married James Herschel Bryce B 7 Aug. 1946. They live in Moberly where they train and show quarter horses all over the U.S. Their stables are located in rural Moberly. They also have a 140 acre farm south of Moberly on highway 63. They do not have any children.
