Ora Hela Harris passed away peacefully December 13, 2010 at her home in the Jewish Retirement Center of Tulsa. Family members were with her when she died. Ora was an amazing woman with an amazing past. She was born November 2, 1918 in Leipzig, Germany, to David and Rebecca Eidinger. In the early 1930s, Ora and her younger sister, Vera, were allowed to leave Germany for Israel, but their parents and youngest sister, Margit, remained, and they later died in the holocaust. During World War II, Ora was a soldier in the British Army and served in Egypt, where she met an American soldier, Bud Harris; they were married in Egypt in 1945. In 1946 they began their new life in Oklahoma. Her husband preceded her in death in 1991. Ora is survived by her two sons and their wives: Ron and Patti Harris, and Steve and Terrie Harris of Oklahoma City; and her sister, Vera Sommerfeld and her husband Gideon of Haifa, Israel. Ora leaves a legacy of loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. Funeral Services were held December 14 at Emanuel Hebrew Cemetery. Officiating was Rabbi Abby Jacobson of Emanuel Synagogue of Oklahoma City, where Ora was a longtime member. It is impossible to summarize such a full life in such a short space. In spite of many hardships, Ora's steadfast spirit and love of family caused her to live a rich and rewarding life. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her. "Shalom, Mema"
