Born Nellie Marie Krusniski, and called Natalia as a child, her surname was later changed to Giber after her parents' divorce. She never married, but she did have a daughter named Jennie I. Giber who died 20 Nov. 1951 either at birth or in infancy.

Obituary from the 2 March 1988 Baudette Region:

Nellie M. Giber, 69

Nellie Marie Giber, who had spent her entire life in Baudette, died Saturday, February 27, at United Hospital in Grand Forks from head injuries as the result of a fall the previous Monday.

Her funeral Mass was celebrated this morning, Wednesday, March 2, by Father Cy Foppe O.M.I. at Sacred Heart Church with Lori Gubbels and Paul Krouss providing special instrumental music. Lectors (sic) were Sister Gladys Laurent and Florence Anderson. Members of Sacred Heart Society marched in procession and were seated as mourners.

Carrying the casket were Norman Hovde, Bob Anderson, John Lamberson, David Nelson, Forest Abbott and Jack Dodds. Serving in an honorary capacity were Frank Humeniuk, William Archer, Carl Curtis, Tom LaFleur, Lloyd Wonser and Cecil Williams. Burial is to be in Elm Park Cemetery.

Born in Baudette on April 3, 1918, Nellie graduated from Baudette High School in 1936 and had worked here ever since. She was a clerk for Brovold Clothing Store and Robinson's Dry Goods prior to 1973 when she went to work in the housekeeping and laundry department of Pioneer Nursing Home. For the past five years, her work had been in the same department at Trinity Hospital. It was while making a stop at Lake of the Woods School in connection with her work that she fell and was injured. She was air-lifted to Grand Forks but never regained consciousness.

Nellie was an active member of Sacred Heart Church and of Sacred Heart Society.

Since the death many years ago of her parents, William and Kathryn Drobot, and of her brothers, George and Pete Giber, Nellie had been without any family in the area, but had many, many friends. She endeared herself to all by her cheerful outlook and sense of humor.

A cousin, Margaret Norman of Sun City West, Arizona was here for the funeral. Also surviving are some nieces and nephews.
