Gladys Marie Payne Riley, 94, of Hueytown passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at her home. She was the wife of Stancel Riley and the mother of Stancel Riley, Jr. Gladys graduated from Hueytown High School in 1938 and attended the Alverson Draughn Business School. On June 19, 1942, she and Stancel Riley married in Hueytown. She worked at Koppers and retired as an accounting supervisor in 1984. he is survived by her son, Stancel M. Riley, Jr, of Guntersville, AL; four grandchildren, Stancel Riley, III of Charlotte, NC, Richard Riley of Birmingham, Hilary Riley Foreman of Portland, OR, and Tonja Bridges of Atlanta, GA; thirteen great-grandchildren; and her sister, Ruth Payne Higgins of Hueytown. Gladys always attended Earnest Methodist Church and was a beloved member and church historian. The visitation will be Saturday, March 22, 2014, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 2:00 PM at the Funeral Home, with Reverend Marian New and Dr. Andy Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow at Earnest Methodist Church Cemetery. There will be a reception at the Earnest Methodist Church following interment. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Earnest Methodist Church in the name of Gladys Payne Riley.
