KARL VAN BUREN, 91, FARMER, LEWISTON RESIDENT
Services for Lewiston resident Karl Van Buren will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jim Higgins presiding.
Burial will follow at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens in Lewiston.
Van Buren, a farmer most of his life, died Tuesday at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center of causes related to age. He was 91.
Van Buren wasn born Aug. 24, 1901, at Ritzville, Wash., to Otto and Freida Schwerin Van Buren.
He married Esther M. Buscher Oct. 23, 1927, at Ritzville. The couple farmed there and at Kahlotus, Wash., until 1957.
They moved to the Tammany area in 1957 and farmed there until 1963.
The couple then moved to Lewiston.
Van Buren's wife died in 1992.
He was active in church work at Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Ritzville and Grace Lutheran Church at Lewiston.
He served on the board of directors of the Lewiston Grain Growers.
Van Buren was a member of the Ritzville IOOF Lodge.
His hobbies included fishing, woodworking and gardening.
Survivors include a brother, Walter Van Buren of Lacey, Wash.; three sisters, Clara Denny of Tekoa, Wash., Ann Baker of Deer Park, Wash., and Jean Knas of Waukesha, Wisc.; a daughter, Mildred Olden of Renton, Wash.; two sons, Donald and Gerald, both of Lewiston; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church.
Malcom's Brower-Wann Memorial Chapel of Lewiston is in charge of arrangements.
