Harold Vaux, 87, longtime Union resident and businessman, died Monday morning, March 17, 2014, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Born on January 17, 1927, in Iowa Falls, Iowa, he was the son of Ernest and Rita (Kane) Vaux. He graduated from Union High School. After graduation, he served our country honorably in the United States Air Force. On May 20, 1951, he was united in marriage to Helen Vernon at the Union Church of Christ. They made their home in Union where he owned and operated Vaux Welding and later Vaux Industries, which included many business ventures. Harold was an active member of the Union Community Church and was a dedicated Boy Scout leader for many years. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, and coffee with friends, but most of all cherished his family. Left to treasure his memory are his three children: Mary (Steve) Gile of Marshalltown, Gary (Deanna) Vaux of Union and Jo (Al) Bergman of Union; six grandchildren and their families: Alicia (Dave) Smith with Hunter, Brayden and Tanner, of Marshalltown; Chad (Christina) Gile with Raylee and Ryder, of Marshalltown; Kyle (Megan) Bergman with Cameron, Morgan and Parker, of Conrad; Katie (John) Richter, of Conrad; Scott (Holly) Bergman with Skyler, of Ankeny; and Brett (Liz) Bergman of Fairbank, Iowa, and many friends. In death, Harold rejoined his loving wife of 61 years, Helen; his sister, Dorothy (the late Russell) Thompson; and his parents.
