Don (Big Don) Franklin, 72, of Louisville, died Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at Hospice & Palliative Care of Louisville's inpatient unit at Norton Healthcare Pavilion. He was a native of Campbellsville, KY, retired from Ford Motor Company Kentucky Truck Plant and an Army veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam War. He was a member of the Derby City Boppers, the Rat Racers of Louisville and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Joyce Marie Downs, five brothers and one sister. He is survived by a son, Shawn Franklin (Melanie); a brother, Ray Franklin (Joan); brother-in-law, Michael Markwell (Barbara); a sister, Frances Grooms; two grandchildren, Dylan and Haley Franklin; and many nieces and nephews. His funeral service will be held at noon Saturday at Evergreen Funeral Home, with entombment to follow in Evergreen Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. both Thursday and Friday.
