Donald A. McCabe, 83, of Kiel died peacefully Monday morning, May 2, 2011 at Homestead Care Center, New Holstein with his family at his side.

He was born March 30, 1928 in Valders, son of the late Cecil & Ida (Wegner) McCabe. Donald attended school in Valders. On June 10, 1950 he married Marcellaine Lilge at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country from 1954-1956. Donald farmed on the Lilge homestead for most of his life. He also was employed at Tecumseh Products, New Holstein, Kiel Sand & Gravel and worked at Shell Patterns, Plymouth until his retirement. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Kiel. Donald enjoyed doing many things in his life including telling stories, being together with family & friends, coon hunting, fishing, woodworking, welding, rug weaving with Marcie and polka dancing.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Marcie of Kiel, two daughters: Susan (Richard) Williams of Black Creek & their children, Megan Williams & Jacob Williams; Colleen (Mark) Hansen of Cleveland & their children; Eric (Christy) Hansen, Peter (Amber) Hansen and Heidi Hansen. He is further survived by three brothers: Philip McCabe, Stanley (Verna) McCabe, Walter (Dianne) Gierke, two sisters, Ruby Pitsch, Vera (Donald) Sagle, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Butler, one sister-in-law, Rose Marie McCabe and one brother-in-law, Ralph Pitsch.

Funeral services for Donald will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, May 6, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 387 Cemetery Road, Kiel with Rev. David Laabs officiating. Burial will take place in Schleswig Cemetery, Town of Schleswig (Rockville). Family and friends may call at the church on Friday from 11:00 am until the time of service. Donald's family would like to extend their thanks to the nurses and staff in Section 3 at Homestead Care Center, New Holstein for the wonderful care given to him
