John A. Deuley, 36, was born October 7, 1967, in Freeport, Texas. He was killed on August 29, 2004 in Kabul, Afghanistan in a terrorist attack.

John is survived by his loving wife, three children, his mother and father, a sister. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jack and Margie Cheaney, and his paternal grandparents, Pau and Goldie Deuley.

John lived in Jones Creek, Texas, for 21 years and attended Brazosport College obtaining a Texas police certification. He started his police career at Brazoria Texas Police Department and joined the Army in 1989 with missions' assignments in Germany, Desert Storm, Kosovo and Ft. Lewis, Washington. After returning from the Army, he served on the Gregory and Arkansas Pass Texas police departments, specializing in drug and street gang interdiction. In 1999, he moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico, and worked with Protection Technology at Los Alamos National Laboratory in the protection of classified matter and nuclear materials. He was assigned as a lieutenant, supervising the security protection of one of Los Alamos National Laboratory's most critical sites. He accepted a position with Wackenhut as an instructor at Ft. Chaffee, conducting training for national security agency personnel in small arms and small unit offense and defense tactics. In February 2004, he was then recruited by Dyncorp International to provide security missions in Afghanistan with the title of the Southern Afghanistan security coordinator.

Funeral service was held at St. Michael's Catholic Church 1025 Pointer Trail in Van Buren, Monday at 10 a.m. with a memorial at Fort Sam Houston V.A. Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to a college fund which has been established for the children at Arvest Bank. It is the John A. Deuley Children's Support Fund. Account 11857682, 1930 Fayetteville Drive, Van Buren, AR 72957.

Local arrangements are with Ocker Funeral Home, 700 Jefferson St. Van Buren.
