The funeral for Albert Arne, 84, of Maddock was held on Friday at 10:00 a. m. at North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock. Interment was in the church cemetery. He died on 19 Nov 1995 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby. Rev. Lori and Rev. Brad Keyser-Boswell officiated. Rachel Markestad was organist and vocalists were Arlyss Bergrud and Roger Hill. Pallbearers were grandsons Duane Warner, Arden Warner, Brad Arne, Richard Trautman, Ransy Trautman, Brad Paulson, Brent Smith and Chad Smith. The Nelson Funeral Home of Maddock were in charge of arrangements. Albert Johannes Arne was born on 3 Dec 1910 in South Viking township of Benson County to parents John and Anna Holey Arne. Following the deaths of both of his parents, he became a foster child of Mr. and Mrs. Olai J. Larson. He lived with them until he grew to manhood. He was baptized on 14 Dec 1910 and confirmed on 9 May 1926 at the Viking Lutheran Church. He attended school at Heimdal and at the Arne township rural school. He married Agnes J. Hvinden on 14 Oct 1929 at Maddock. They lived on a farm in South Viking township. In 1938 they moved to Chehalis, WA where he worked in a logging camp. Upon returning to North Dakota in 1939 he worked for elevators in Maddock, Temple and Flora. Later he was employed on the Garrison Dam project in western ND. He then worked for Hogenson Construction Company building elevators. He also worked at the Harold Kenner farm near Maddock. In 1964 he began working for the Maddock School as a custodian, retiring in 1986. She died on 4 Jul 1985. He moved to the Maddock Memorial Home in 1988 and lived there until his death. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Gordon, who was born 4 May 1932 and his wife Mavis Wold Arne and Jerome, who was born 18 Mar 1937 and his wife Patricia Dillerud Arne; four daughters, Arlene Warner who was born 18 Dec 1929, Gloria, who was born 15 Dec 1943, Mrs. Trautman and Mrs. Michael Paulson, Sharon, who was born 13 Jul 1947and her husband Lyle Smith and Deborah, who was born 29 Jan 1951 Mrs. Howard Jacobson; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Gerhard Arne of Gig Harbor, WA; two sisters, Ann Arne Togstad and Caroline Arne Billigmeier. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Agnes; two grandsons, Jeff Smith in 1968 and Jimmy Warner in 1994; two brothers, Art and Henry Arne; two sisters, Mabel Arne Meyers and Alice Arne Manfred; two sisters in infancy and a son-in-law James Warner.
