7th/14th Light horse Regiment. Husband of Kelly, father of Sarah and Kate.
∼Lance Corporal Stjepan Milosevic - 8542304 aged 40 years old of 2/14th Light Horse Regiment based at Gallipoli Barracks in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
Lance Corporal Stjepan Milosevic, Sapper James Martin and Private Robert Poate were killed by a rogue Afghan soldier at the Wahab Patrol base in the Baluchi Valley region.
The three Australians, part of a mentoring platoon, were shot by a man identified as Hekmatullah, who was later tracked down in Pakistan and has since been sentenced to death.
Extract from soldier's Inquest -
An intelligence officer told the fourth day of the coronial inquest that two hours before the insider attack he assessed the threat as high because of the layout of the base.
Corporal Samuel Mathieson was a private at the time but performing the tasks of an intelligence officer with the Mentoring Task Unit Bravo.
Corporal Mathieson also told the hearing he assessed the threat of an insider attack as high.
He found the Afghan national army had the capability and resources to conduct such an attack because of the patrol base layout, where it was difficult to separate the Australians from the Afghans they were mentoring.
Corporal Mathieson told the court that two hours later, the three soldiers were gunned down by a rogue soldier. He said he had not known until today that another contingent of Australians had previously been at the base and could have passed on the valuable information.
Known to his family as "Rick" and "Milo" to his fellow soldiers. Milo enlisted in the Army in 1972, and had completed several tours of duty. He leaves behind a wife and two children.
Buried on 12th September 2012 with full Military Honours.
