BURTON, Mattie Louise Walker Was born September 14, 1913 to the late Katie Ella Ware Walker and Rev. E.B. Walker Sr. in Wetumpka, Alabama. Born in a huge family of seven brothers and six sisters, she came to Middletown in 1953. Married Harold E. Burton in 1961. She chose Emmanuel Baptist Church as her church home. She was president of the Willing Workers, served on the board of Trustee and in charge of the kitchen for five years. She was employed at Duff's Café for 35 years as a cook, and at Well's Fleet Service for five years. She was preceded in death by both parents, Katie Ella Ware Walker and Rev. E.B. Walker Sr.; all brothers and sisters, niece Annie Bell Lige; husband Harold E. Burton Sr.; one daughter, Merriam Louise Riley; two stepdaughters, Hattie M. Howard and Jewell G. Milton; one stepson, Charles Wilkerson Jr.; and best friend Mae Hairston. She will leave to cherish her memories a loving, caring niece, Freddie Mae Coles who came to take care of her in 1990, and took good care of her until death called her away; special nephew Jr. (Ada) Crenshaw; nieces Mary Crenshaw, Alene Pope, Merriam Ashland, Clara Robinson and a dandy stepson-in-law, Leroy Howard; special loving step-granddaughter, Carolyn (Tommy) Edwards; and a host of other step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral service will be Tuesday, June 5, noon at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1200 Young St. Rev. David Q. Marks Sr. officiating, Rev. Donald H. Jordan Sr. eulogist. Visitation one hour prior to service. Interment in Woodside Cemetery. Arrangements by Hall Jordan and Pretty Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 918 S. Main St. .
