Charles William Artzer, 57, 631 Freeman, died Friday at a Topeka hospital. Autopsy results were unavailable late Saturday.

He was born March 5, 1925, at Topeka, the son of John P. and Lena Hefner Artzer.

Mr. Artzer was a mechanic technician for Santa Fe Railway for 40 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and North Post No. 400 of the American Legion, both at Topeka. He served in the Navy from June 1943 until 1945.

He married Loretta Tunison May 6. 1950, at Topeka. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Beth Burrell, Hays, and Mrs. Mary Agnes Boling, Topeka; four sons, Dr. Dennis C. Artzer, Topeka, Lt. Steven P. Artzer, USN, Newport, RI, CW2 Lawrence J. Artzer, USN, Long Beach, Calif., and Martin P. Artzer, of the home; four sisters, Mrs. Caroline Dietz, Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Magdalen Schwartz, Topeka, Mrs. Florence Myers, Sacramento, Calif., and Mrs Marla Domme, Glendora. Calif.; and seven grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Topeka. Mr. Artzer will lie in state from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday at Brennan Funeral Home where a parish rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
