Longtime Savannah, Georgia reporter, journalist and managing editor for WTOC News in Savannah,Georgia , sister station WXFG In Augusta,Ga. and gifted photographer.

Mike Manhatton,A local news fixture for 33 years, died of complications of cancer on March 11,2014 at the age of 56.
The award winning reporter and much beloved anchorman will be sadly missed by the entire community.

Mike Manhatton was awarded The Southeast Regional Emmy Award by the National Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2006, for "Freedom Warriors"
A series of stories and a half hour show about 3RD ID ,24th Infantry Division Ft.Stewart/Hunter soldiers in Iraq.
His Other Awards include Associated Press Awards for Best Spot News, Best Documentation and Best News Cast.
The Georgia Dept. of Defense- Military Division awarded Him the Georgia Commendation medal for Military Affairs for coverage of The 165th Airlift Wing of The Georgia National Guard.
Videomaker Magazine named Mike Manhatton one of the top video makers in 1991.
His coverage and commentary of the St.Patrick's Day Parade in Savannah was widely enjoyed. He also covered The Beaufort Water Festival annually. These became a favorite yearly tradition for viewers unable to attend the events in person.

Mike Manhatton volunteered tirelessly for The Childrens Miracle Network . He was often emcee for The Childrens Miracle Network Telethon on WTOC .
In 2013 a showing of his photography was held in a Savannah Gallery . In the auction of his photography , proceeds from sales were donated to The Childrens Miracle Network.
In addition to The Childrens Miracle Network, he also championed other charities often acting as emcee at various charitable events.

He supported local military troops and their families with in depth reports of military deployments. Traveling extensively with the U.S. Army, The Georgia Air National Guard and Marine Corps, Beaufort,S.C. Some of his many travels included:
Saudi Arabia in Operation Desert Shield with The 24th Infantry Division before the first gulf war,
He logged more than a dozen trips to Kuwait. Two trips to Bosnia with Georgia National Guard units. Afghanistan with the 92ND Engineers. Two different Aircraft Carriers with the Marine Corps Aviation units from Beaufort,South Carolina. Baghdad, Tikrit and Al Asad, Iraq with the 3RD Infantry Division and Georgia National Guard.
Medical missions in Peru with The 165th Airlift Wing of the Georgia National Guard. Also an anti-drug mission to the Bahamas with U.S.Army Special Operations Aviation helicopter units.

His warm smile and caring personality made him a welcome guest in homes across the southeast Georgia Coastal Empire and South Carolina low country every evening.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Manhatton. Survived by his wife, two stepdaughters, mother and sister

A christian wake was held Thursday March 13,2014.Hundreds of fans gathered with family , friends and officials to honor his passing. Funeral mass held Friday March 14, 2014 at The Cathedral of St. John The Baptist in Savannah Georgia.
Burial in Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah Georgia.
