Mack Payne, 82, Cherokee, Ala., died Sunday, July 6, 2003. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cherokee Church of Christ, Cherokee, with burial in Cherokee CME Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service.Thompson and Son Funeral Home, Tuscumbia, is directing.He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Helen J. Payne, Cherokee, Ala.; sons, Johnny Payne, Alvin Payne, Jimmy Payne, Barry (Angie) Payne, all of Cherokee, Danny Payne, Florence, Ala., James (Millie) Payne, Newark, N.J.; daughters, Loretta (Eurial) Goodloe, Frances (Bobby) Bridgeman, Peggy (Abe) Brown, all of Cherokee, Wanda Thompson, Tuscumbia, Ala., Sherry (Frank) Koger, Florence, Jennifer (Des) Hagger, Dallas, Texas; sister, Gladys Shelton, Cherokee; 33 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.He was a member of Cherokee Church of Christ, Cherokee.He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged.
