November 4, 1917 - March 8, 2014 Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Cell and Neurobiology, Keck School of Medicine of USC, Dr. David Berman died peacefully at his home in Sherman Oaks on Saturday.
Beloved educator in pharmacology, he taught medical students for 60 years (1952 to 2012). His brilliance as a teacher is evidenced by more than 45 teaching awards. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in pharmacy, and a PhD in pharmacology at USC. He retired at age 70, and was rehired annually to teach pharmacology to first- and second-year medical students as "emeritus" every year for an additional 24 years. He said, "being with students keeps you young -- you pick up on their energy and excitement."
Dr. Berman was married for 65 years, and is survived by his two daughters and his three grandchildren who loved him deeply.
Funeral services will be held at Mt. Sinai Hollywood Hills, Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at 12:30pm. In lieu of flowers, his children request contributions to the David A. Berman Pharmacology Achievement Award, USC.
