U.S. Congressman. While working as a telegraph operator foreman in a steel mill, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1907 and commenced to practice law in Farrell, Pennsylvania. He was the Farrell City Solicitor (1910-30), served in the Pennsylvania State Senate (1911-13), a member of the Pennsylvania State Workmen’s Compensation Board (1919-23) and served as chairman of Mercer County Republican committee. In 1937, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-fifth, Seventy-sixth, and Seventy-seventh Congresses, serving until 1943. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law and died suddenly while on a visiting trip in Ohio.
