Phillip was born at the Glendale Hospital in Palatka and was a native and lifelong resident of Palatka.
He was a 1969 graduate of the Palatka Senior High School. In 2004 he medically retired from Georgia Pacific Corp. in Palatka after 32 years of service as a wrapper and rewinder operator. He belonged to the International United Steel Workers Local #33 (formerly PACE Local #30) at Georgia Pacific. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, including throwing his net off the Matanzas Bridge. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandson. He attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Palatka.
Preceding him in death were his father, Eugene B. McDonald; his mother, Della Whitaker; a sister, Betty Jean Alford; a brother-in-law, Reggie Alford; and a niece, Regina Alford May.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Nadavah McDonald of Francis; two sons, Michael McDonald of Francis and Eugene McDonald (Selena Wilkinson) of Francis; a daughter and son-in-law, Jessica and Ron Allen of Palatka; a brother, Jimmy McDonald of Palatka; a sister and brother-in-law, Nena and Jamie Deel of Interlachen; ten grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at the Masters Funeral Home in Palatka. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 10, 2014 at the funeral home with Pastor Derrell Smith and Pastor Keith Hutcheson officiating. In honor and celebration of Phillip's life a Video Tribute will be shown. Burial will follow in Oak Hill East Cemetery in Palatka.
