~ Per the Jesse James Farm & Museum, Kearney MO
Perry Samuel (September 15, 1868- March 1, 1938), was born on the farm of Doctor Reuben Samuel in Clay County, Missouri. He is widely believed to have been the illegitimate son of Dr. Samuel by a former slave, Charlotte. Reuben Samuel's wife Zerelda, whose sons by a former marriage were outlaws Frank and Jesse James, would later state that she adopted Perry. However, the 1880 census lists Perry Samuel as a servant. Perry Samuel died of a coronary occulusion on March 1, 1938 in Clay County, Missouri.
