Surviving are three daughters, Sandra Helms of Freeport, Beth (Marvin) Bausman of Beloit, WI., and Carol (Paul) Biesemeier of Austin, TX; 10 grandchildren, Daryl (Pennie) Groezinger, Amy (Doug) Lieb, DeAnne (Blake) Voss, Dawson (Meigan) Bausman, Nyree Bausman (Rick Walsh) of Masawa, Japan, Jennifer Fredericks of College Station TX., Erik Biesemeier of Austin, TX., Suzanne Boglou of Limassol, Cyprus and Aaron & Jeremy Helms of Wasilla, AK; 9 great-grandchildren; one sister Alta Mertz; and one brother Bill Janssen.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband in 1984, , daughter Joyce Groezinger in 1995 and son Gale Helms in 2006. Also brothers Harold and Mervin Janssen.
Kate attended rural schools and graduated from Sterling High School in 1939. She was an excellent seamstress and sewed many of her kids clothes while they were growing up. She was a 4-H club leader and belonged to the Florence Home Extension unit for many years. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Freeport. Kate enjoyed going to Provena Day Care Center and spending time with many new friends she made there.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Walker Mortuary, in Freeport. Internment followed at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.
