HORTENSE RHEAD BOWMAN

Our kind sweet mother passed away March 21, 1995, age 96, of a stroke, after a long life devoted to others.

Mother was remarkably strong and healthy throughout her life and remained vigorous and lucid to the very time of her passing.

The well being and happiness of her family and friends was always first and foremost in her thoughts and life, which she patterned after her own mother's example.

Hortense Rhead Bowman was born January 25, 1899, in Coalville, Utah, to James B. and Maria Hortin Rhead. She graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Home Economics and taught high school for several years. She married George V. Bowman January 11, 1928, in Salt Lake City, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. She was active in the LDS Church and Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

She raised four children in McCammon, Idaho, and Salt Lake City, Utah, and is survived by one daughter, Barbara Svee (Robert); three sons, Keith, George (Dolores), Rhead (Alexandra); seven grandchidren, four great-grandchildren; brother, James O. (Tony) Rhead (Maralyn). Preceded in death by husband, George, brother, Lafe and sisters, Fiametta, LaVon, and Louise.

In accordance with her wishes that her passing be marked by simplicity and modesty, a short service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 1995, Larkin Sunset Gardens, 10600 South 1700 East, Sandy, Utah. Family and friends are invited. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens.
