David Baker, an aged citizen, residing near Koleen, died last Saturday. Rev. J. A. Spencer, of this place, conducted the funeral service.

David Baker was born about the year of 1824, in Tennessee; came with his parents to this country when about ten years of age. He was in the service in the Civil War and after his return home, he was married to Susan Hardesty. To this union was born six children, four of whom are living - Granville Baker, of Bedford; Hiram Newton, of Koleen; Marquis D. J., of Jasonville; Mrs. Sarah Wright, of Koleen. He lived a great portion of his life as a moral man and good citizen, and at the age of about sixty-five he accepted the promises of Christ - ("Although heavy hairs may thy temples adorn, like lambs ye shall still in my bosom be bore"). He united with the Church of Christ at this place, under the preaching of Rev. Henry Shaw, and by him was buried with Christ in christian baptism. He was a man of convictions on all subjects to which he gave his attention, which naturally indentified him with those persons interested in morality, education and religion. He was strictly honest and very congenial in nature; a great lover of young people and children. During his eighty-four years of life he had some very sad experiences - the home-going of two idolized children, Jonas and Martha, and the wife who went away only about eight months ago, was a hard blow for Uncle Abe.
In his last sickness, in hours of delirium he engaged in conversation with someone, persumably his wife. There is only a veil between the better world and this, and as this fades away the other comes in view.

Deceased was a farmer by occupation in the years of his activity, and most of his long life was spent in this community.
